I am a geographer whose research intersects the fields of land systems science and biogeography. My research emerges from a strong background in human-environment geography, tropical ecology and remote sensing. My work examines how and why tropical landscapes are transformed, assessing the socio-ecological drivers and implications on landscape spatial configurations. My research examines theoretical and methodological ways of linking remotely sensed data with biophysical and socioeconomic data in order to understand landscape dynamics in the tropics.

We always like to hear from interested individuals. If you would like more information on how to be involved with the Land Systems Science Research Group, or Rutgers Geography, please contact me with your research interests and questions.

I am interested in how interdisciplinary approaches such as political ecology and land use science can address human-environmental dynamics. In particular, I seek to understand the historical and current forest transition driven by the combination of policies, land management, asymmetric power relations between actors, biophysical aspects and socioeconomic models in southern Mexico.

As a fourth year PhD candidate in Rutgers Geography, I am interested in how spatio-temporal arrangements of human-environment interaction inform resilience. My dissertation will explore multiple case study communities in southern Mexico to understand how the rate and characteristics of tropical forest regeneration are effected by the tradeoffs between various land uses (i.e. agriculture, forestry) and biophysical processes (i.e. biodiversity). In addition to my dissertation work, I am also a trainee in the Rutgers Coastal Climate Risk and Resiliency (C2R2) program.
